Cleft and Saddle Stick Chair

7–11 August

my-camera-summer-2016-c-117You will make a contemporary Cleft stick chair using traditional techniques with reference to both English and Welsh traditional design. The chair will include a base seat shaped using a range of hand  tools with cleft legs arms and back constructed with mortice and tennon  joints.

You will learn:

  • chair design
  • selecting suitable material
  • tool selection and maintenance
  • shaping and working timber
  • Cleaving and working with cleft wood
  • Mortise and Tenon joints
  • finishing and protecting

The course tutor will be Neill Mapes and will take place at the Green Wood Centre.
