You will make a contemporary Cleft stick chair using traditional techniques with reference to both English and Welsh traditional design. The chair will include a base seat shaped using a range of hand tools with cleft legs arms and back constructed with mortice and tennon joints.
You will learn:
- chair design
- selecting suitable material
- tool selection and maintenance
- shaping and working timber
- Cleaving and working with cleft wood
- Mortise and Tenon joints
- finishing and protecting
The course tutor will be Neill Mapes and will take place at the Green Wood Centre.
