Knife Making

27 September

Course Cost: £140

Venue: The GreenWood Centre, Coalbrookdale, TF8 7DR

Learn the skills of the blacksmith and blade smith and make your own knife. In this session you will make two knife blades, a straight blade and a hooked blade for spoon carving, which you can take away with you at the end of the day.

You will learn to:

  • Use the forge anvil and hammer
  • Be able to identify the temperature of steel by looking at the colours
  • Learn the art of hardening and tempering, forging and drawing with the hammer.

Blacksmith made knives differ from commercial made knives in that they are not ground with a grinder but shaped with a hammer.

Please note that there will not be time in the day to make handles for your knives, however, you will be given instructions on how to do this.

The tutor Richard Eaton is a professional blacksmith making artistic and traditional ironwork as well as heritage work in Shropshire. He has a deep passion for making knifes.
