Bringing woodlands to life

Course information

With more then 20 years experience of delivering courses and training, Small Woods courses have gained a reputation for high quality teaching and professionalism. Most courses take place at the well-equipped Green Wood Centre in Coalbrookdale, Telford. We have a range of indoor and outdoor teaching areas that provide a range of versatile spaces for our diverse range of courses. Woodland management, coppicing and hedge laying courses take place in nearby local woodlands.

Some courses are delivered by approved external providers at the Green Wood Centre and other sites across the UK. We expect all courses to meet the high standards that have been established over many years and to use only experienced professionals and woodland practitioners as tutors.

Small Woods strives to keep course numbers low to ensure the best quality learning experience. Our courses, unless otherwise specified, are suitable for all levels of experience and ability. The physical nature and/or woodland location of some courses may make them difficult for people with mobility problems. We do, however, have many years experience in enabling all groups to attend courses and will make every effort to ensure a satisfying experience for all.

Accredited training

Small Woods are keen to ensure skills and training in green wood crafts and woodland management are taught to a high and consistent standard and have developed a suite of Open College Network accredited courses.

All courses are taught by tutors who have many years experience and are practitioners in the areas they teach. The courses are designed to provide the basic knowledge needed to allow course participants to continue to practice and improve their skills and are suitable for anyone wishing to improve their knowledge to a recognised standard.
