Community woodland management – Church Wood, East Sussex

2 May

What’s it like to manage a woodland as part of a team of enthusiasts?

Robin Goldsmith and colleagues will show us around delightful Church Wood, a small semi-natural ancient site of just under five acres. Following a path behind St Mary’s in Ninfield, a Wealden district of East Sussex, you plunge down a slope into this secluded woodland, which has several ponds on various levels fed by a spring, all bursting with wildlife.

Owned by the community for the last twenty five years, it is managed and maintained by volunteers from the local Village Society  on behalf of the Parish Council, an arrangement which has worked very well so far.
