We are welcoming children here to GO WILD at Small Woods with three days of fun during the Summer School Holidays (Mon 7th – Wed 9th Aug and Mon 21st – Wed 23rd Aug 2017), for 7 to 12 year old girls and boys.
This is a great opportunity for children who love the outdoors. They can explore in a creative and inspirational way with opportunities to achieve and develop their confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a local woodland environment. Recent investigation by the Forestry Commission has noted the health benefits to children being outdoors and engaging with nature.
Keeping your children safe is vital to us and all the staff are fully trained. We will staff at a ratio of 1:15. The leader is Fully Qualified, First Aid Trained and DBS Checked. Sessions are safe and secure for your children and will match the age group and ability.
Location:- Small Woods Association, Station Road, Coalbrookdale, TF8 7DR
Time: – 10am to 3.30pm (Can arrive at 9.00am for an extra £3 per child).
One Day Attendance – £20 per child (Sibling £17 per child)
Two Day Attendance – £40 per child (Sibling £34 per child)
All Three Days Attendance -£55 per child (Sibling £49 per child)
OR attend ALL three sessions and save £5 per 1st child and £2 per sibling!!
Please provide a packed lunch for your child/ren.
7th Aug 17 – Survival Day
Wilderness first aid – Take part in a real first aid scenario where teams will take turns to be rescuers and casualties. Share gruesome and inspiring tales of real first aid survival stories
Signals – Learn to signal with lights to form a rescue message, make a signal fire and learn how to create international rescue signs on the ground for aircraft to see.
8th Aug 17 – Crafty Craftsman
Carving – Learn safe knife use techniques to carve your own butter knife to take home.
Clay – Using clay make your own pots and fat lamps using natural materials to decorate it.
9th Aug – Fun and Fire
Cooking and wild food prep (fish) – Learn how to prepare fish to cook on an open fire. You’ll be surprised how delicious it is cooked by the flames!
Camo skills – Learn the simple and clever art of camouflage. Try hiding from your group and turn yourself into a wild ninja of the forest!
21st Aug 17 – Bushcraft
Fire lighting – Using various tinder’s and methods of ignition learn all the magic of firelighting. Take part in a fire lighting challenge.
Bread cooking – Learn the surprising joys of combining flour and water and cook bannock bread over an open fire.
22nd Aug 17 – Caveman for a Day
Cave art – Create natural colours using nature as your paint pallet. Create designs to replicate those found in the caves dating over 40,000 years ago. Create your own hunting story on canvas. Make charcoal on a fire to use in your drawings.
Spear Making – Just like a caveman would have done thousands of years ago use stone to create an Spear tip and create your very own spear to take home.
23rd Aug 17 – Survival Skills
Wilderness first aid – Learn simple techniques to use in the wilderness in a first aid situation. Share gruesome and inspiring tales of real first aid survival stories. Learn how to create a signal fire to call for help.
Water collection and purification – Learn how to find water in the wild. Learn how to make your own water filter. Join in on a challenge of who can collect, purify and make the cleanest water.
For All returning children who have been on a camp before we WILL run advanced classes to build on their skills!!
