Green social prescribing

19 Hyd 2021

A project is underway to boost ‘green social prescribing’ - where health professionals refer service users to outdoor health initiatives for physical and mental health and wellbeing.  This project builds on our existing activities working with health and social care in 10 locations across Wales. It will develop online and digital interaction as well as in-real-life collaboration and resources which will help reach those at home that we have not been able to support previously.

To date, the project has piloted woodland activity and information days across the three project locations, run online film-making training for staff and leaders, and livestreamed with Green Care Finland to share woodland wellbeing practices (shown in photo). The project is anticipating two engaging short films to raise the profile of green social prescribing through working with filmmaker and director Mike Erskine (Reconnect in Nature).

The project has received funding through the Welsh Government Rural Communities - Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government.

More about this project will be shared when it ends in November. For further information, contact Project Officer Chris Jackson at [email protected]

The project works in partnership to promote best practice across the whole of Wales, the rest of the UK and beyond, with Cynnal y Cardi (Leader in Ceredigion), Cwm Taf Leader (Merthyr Tydfil) and Regenerate Neath Port Talbot (Leader in NPT) and new partners Green Care Finland (an outdoor nature-based social prescribing association in Finland).
