Build a Bench

Build a Bench (BBO) is a fully funded, 12-week programme aimed at people who are not currently in any kind of paid work and live in Telford and Wrekin, or Shropshire. It provides a unique opportunity to take part in weekly green wood craft sessions ,combined with supportive action planning sessions.

ELM Test & Trial

Environmental Land Management (ELM) is the post-Brexit payment scheme in England that replaces the Countryside Stewardship scheme for farmers and land managers by the end of 2024. This study is part of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) Tests and Trials programme. Our work was completed at the end of 2021. Small Woods investigated ways to bring more small woods back into management under environmental land management.

Lost Woods of the Low Weald and Downs is an exciting partnership project that aims to bring forgotten areas of ancient woodland in Sussex back to life. Partner organisations will work with landowners and local communities to rescue these woods - boosting biodiversity and creating a more resilient network of trees and a haven for wildlife.

Mercian Woodland Biodiversity Project

Small Woods is working in partnership with Severn Trent on an exciting project to improve woodlands for wildlife and nature. We are embarking on a programme of biodiversity improvements which will restore coppice, bring woodlands back into management and create new woodland habitats in the Severn Trent area.

The Woodland Biodiversity Project will bring 1000 hectares of woodland enhancements over a five-year period through an active engagement process with woodland owners, community trusts and other stakeholders.

Woodland Walk - Redlingfield Wood

Redlingfield Wood is situated on the valley side of a small tributary of the River Waveney. The tree layer of the wood is dominated by Oak and Ash with smaller amounts of Field Maple and Hornbeam. Other trees and shrubs which occur in the wood include Crab Apple, Hawthorn, Hazel, Dogwood and Elm.
