Sustainable Woodland Management AIM L3
- The Green Wood Centre
- 03 Feb 2025 - 05 Feb 2025
Small Woods is working in partnership with Severn Trent on an exciting project to improve woodlands for wildlife and nature. We are embarking on a programme of biodiversity improvements which will restore coppice, bring woodlands back into management and create new woodland habitats in the Severn Trent area.
The Mercian Woodland Biodiversity Project will bring 1000 hectares of woodland enhancements over a five-year period through an active engagement process with woodland owners, community trusts and other stakeholders. It will focus on monitoring how woodlands respond to intervention, champion the cause of management and develop a series of demonstration projects to highlight the importance of woodland products both in conservation and as a natural asset.
Although the project is aimed at woodland wildlife, we will also consider the importance of ecosystem services through the work we undertake. In particular, we will highlight how community involvement opportunities can provide a range of social, health and wellbeing benefits.
This page provides access to advice and guidance for project participants on a variety of topics to support their woodland management reflection, planning and interventions.
A series of advisory notes are now available digitally and are soon to be printed. The topics of these notes are aimed at enhancing woodland management for biodiversity.

The following notes will be posted online as they are completed throughout 2023. Please check back regularly.
