Networks for Resilience is a collaboration of five national organisations (Small Woods Association, Royal Forestry Society, Sylva Foundation, Grown in Britain and Woodland Heritage), working in partnership in the South West and East of England to create regional hubs that provide support, training and networking opportunities for owners looking to bring their woodland into management.
Prospective and existing owners can face a number of barriers. We recently conducted a survey of Small Woods members in England to find out more about these barriers, and the kind of support required to overcome them.
We are very grateful for an overwhelmingly positive response, with 106 people taking part. Ninety-nine per cent of the respondents were woodland owners or managers, with average area owned being 2 hectares, although some went up to 35-45 hectares.
