John will guide the visit which will look at and discuss recent management to fell ash suffering from dieback, felled in October 2021. We will also see other areas of Ash within this varied woodland. It has several interesting historical features within the wood including old strip fields and sawpits. An area of mature conifers and poplars has also been felled and is being replanted this winter with native broadleaves. A chalk grassland was created in 1990 within the former pine plantation and is now rich in wildlife, such as orchids and butterflies.
This three-hour walk includes a hill and also a muddy bridleway so please bring appropriate clothing and footwear.
Parking is available just off the A40.
