Join us on Wednesday 6th November for a warm welcome at Coed Cerrig in Denbighshire, north-east Wales –  as featured in Small Woods magazine Autumn edition.

This 5-acre plot within Big Covert Plantation on Ancient Woodland Site (PAWS) is gradually being restored from a 70-year-old beech plantation to a mixed native woodland. Following an ancient woodland remnant survey by the Woodland Trust, the owner has developed a 10-year management plan to achieve their objectives of enhancing the biodiversity of the woodland.

This visit will involve a walk and talk around the site, led by the woodland owner and manager, to understand how creating clearings and undertaking halo thinning has allowed the canopy to open-up. The owner will also talk about his experience using horses to extract the felled timber, creating dead hedging and replanting choices.

At the end of the day there’ll be the option to head across the road to visit the Wildlife Trust’s Aberduna tree nursery. You’ll get the chance to learn about the nursery, from how it was set it up to details on species selection and propagation.

There will be plenty of opportunity throughout the day to ask questions and have discussions in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Thanks to FSC funding, this event is run free-of-charge. Places are limited and available on a first come first served basis, so sign up early to avoid disappointment!
