GROWING TOGETHER

Free Mercian Woodland Biodiversity Workshops

The Mercian Woodland Biodiversity Project aims to empower woodland owners, stewards and managers with practical, simple tools and advice for a long-term woodland management vision.

This autumn we are providing a further 12 free places on the 'Introduction to Woodland Management’ at the Green Wood Centre in Shropshire. All course fees will be covered by the Mercian project but participants will need to arrange their own accommodation and lunch. This AIM Level 3 recognised course will give you all the skills and confidence to start utilising your Mercian planning and resource materials.

We will also be providing free workshops to all SWA members, regardless of whether they are participants in the Mercian project. These workshops will give you practical experience of how to undertake some common and simple interventions that boost the biodiversity of your wood and the skills to implement them, and other new techniques, with confidence.

Edge and ride management, edge scalloping, coppicing and ‘laying’ skills such as hedge laying and pleaching will be covered on separate days by our project Biodiversity Advisors, at a number of venues, from October 2024 onwards.  All the necessary equipment will be provided but places on each day will be limited to 8.
